Fortune - a gift from the universe

Fortune - a gift from the universe

Fortune crossed over the #RainbowBridge on October 21, 2017. His smile, his love and his presence is missed. #RescueIsMyFavoriteBreed he was abandoned and tied to my old bosses tree with her water hose. When he saw me, he leaped into my arms and was licking my face. It was love at first sight. His fur went from caramel tan to silver. He may have grown old, but his love never did. #AdoptDontShop the love he showed me will stay with me always. It's a lifetime of responsibility. He had an enlarged heart and lung cancer, so his suffering is no longer. He helped my other rescues come out of their shell and be comfortable in their puppy skin. He was a great teacher, he was a great friend and a special boy.... 😔😭🐶

It's almost been 6 months since he's left my family, and I still miss him. Very rarely do we ever meet, get to be adopted by a loved one that touches our soul in such a way. Fortune was that loved one. I didn't know it at the time of taking him to his new home that he was going to be the gift that he was. He was a beautiful spirit that has left my house but not my heart.....

Prius the kitten - A Rescue Story

I know that it's not often that I share personal things here. However, on Friday(May 20, 2016), there was an event that happened that I feel I need to share....

While driving home on Friday, I found a tiny kitten on the most inside shoulder of IH10 west. I noticed a tiny black ball of fur that was trying to jump over the wall of the shoulder. Had he succeed, he would have fallen to his death. I stopped on the shoulder, being as safe as I could, and got out of my car. I walked on the shoulder of the highway, cars whizzing past me at speeds of 70mph.

After walking quite a distance from my car, I find this black ball of fur that has given up on life. I scooped him up, clutched him to my chest, and walked back to my car. Since this little kitten decided that he would crawl down my leg and up behind my steering wheel, I ended up needing to go to the Toyota dealership (Cavender). When I pulled up to the service area of the dealership, a tech asks me "how can I help you today? Are you having a good day?". Here is where I blush, and say "well, in the chaos of my world, there's a kitten behind my steering wheel." Once I was able to explain the story to the tech, I find my car being searched by 5 techs and the service manager. (I'm not the only one that this has happened to.) We find this little ball of fur and whiskers wedged between the air filter, not wanting to come out. The service manager told me to leave food out in the car and in about an hour he'll come out. Little did I know he would be there for 12hrs in my car (crawling behind my steering wheel and exploring by my air filter) he finally came out of hiding at 3.15am. I was able to scoop this kitten (soon to be named Prius) and the food left in my car and place both in a crate.

I took Prius to my vet, where we discovered that his lip needed to be reconnected to his jaw. It seems that this six week old ‪#‎kitten‬ was thrown from someone's vehicle. I had someone lined up to ‪#‎foster‬ and found someone who wanted to ‪#‎adopt‬ Prius. The ‪#‎heartbreaking‬ part is that Prius passed on the operating table. His little body had too many internal injuries.
The point of this, is that had I been afraid of the cars, or how and what to do; Prius would've have died on the side of the highway. Never knowing ‪#‎love‬ or that humans can be ‪#‎compassionate‬. I'm having his body cremated and he will be a part of my ‪#‎family‬. ‪#‎BeTheChangeYouWantToSee‬ ‪#‎EndAnimalAbuse‬ ‪#‎AdoptDontShop‬ ‪#‎RescueIsMyFavoriteBreed‬ ‪#‎furbabies‬

The Amazing Race & Wild Places Horse Rescue

With one of the groups that I'm apart of up here, I was able to find a good friend Kelly. She is vegan, animal lover, gentle, and a great person to be around. Her dream has come true about having a horse rescue. The part that's really hard about starting a horse rescue (like every dream) from the ground up, is that it's hard to find the time to work, keep your passion and dream nurtured, and not get discouraged when you hit a brick wall. Well, I actually am sponsoring Maggie the Mule from her rescue for Violet's Christmas present, and we're planning (through) the group an Amazing Race Style fundraiser. That's where this post comes in, The Compassionate Vegan is sponsoring a team and I'd like to help get my team votes.

"The Amazing Race" for animals, benefiting Kelly's horse rescue "Wild Places Horse Rescue" in Guffey Colorado is now posted! There are 9 teams so far so if you'd like to sign up head over to her site OR if you'd like to vote for a team head here! http://www.wildplacesrescue.org/vote.htm
Every vote is $1 and every bit of it goes to the horse rescue! So head on over and pick your favorite team! Look for The Compassionate Vegan logo and vote for our team.... Thank You All SO Very Much!

The Gifts That Show Love Through the Year

The Gifts That Show Love Through the Year

Sevenly.org

This Company has several designs a week that support wonderful causes. Don't get too attached to the designs, though. They come out with a new cause and different deigns each week. With the purchase of every shirt, the company gives $7 dollars of the purchase to that weeks organization. You are able to keep up with the organization, to see how funds are being used....

I've gotten 4 shirts from them, and they're a great quality. Super soft!

For some in my family, I'm sponsoring rescued animals for a year. With some organizations you'll receive a letter and photo. (If you're looking for a throughout the year letter and photo, double check. Some will only do one.) Again, this is great looking into for kids that may have too many toys, but are still wanting to open something. Plus, this teaches about being responsible with animals/kids and that there is more to life then toys/games.....

For the loved ones in our families, that may not see eye to eye on our views. (My friend gave me this idea.) She will fill up a reusable bag with documentary of choice and then add items that go along with it. For example, she gave a documentary about energy, filled up the bag with CFLs and information on doing a home energy audit. Peaceable Kingdom is a good choice. It's about farmers that once ate meat and gave it up, either because of health, environment or the love of their animals and the rose colored glasses being removed.....
